About Sithonia
The peninsula of Sithonia is part of the larger Chalkidiki peninsula in Northern Greece. Known as the “second leg,” Sithonia is nestled between Kassandra and Mount Athos. Its combination of mountainous landscapes and sandy beaches makes it a truly special destination.
Sithonia is characterized by its fantastic beaches, beautiful natural scenery and picturesque villages. The peninsula is lush and green, adorned with pine forests, olive groves, vineyards and mountains.
It is particularly famous for its sandy beaches with crystal clear waters. Among the stunning beaches in the area are Agios Ioannis, Koviou, Kalogria and Elia on the east coast, as well as Trani Ammouda, Lagonisi and Karidi on the west coast.
However, many may not realize that the beauty of Sithonia extends beyond its beaches. There is a different side to Sithonia that offers fascinating places to explore. One such historic site is Old Nikiti, which features a beautiful church dating back to the 16th century.
In addition to Nikiti, the municipality seat of Sithonia, there are numerous attractive villages and locations worth visiting, including Neos Marmaras, Sarti, Toroni and Porto Koufo, home to the largest natural harbor in Greece.
About Nikiti
Nikiti is a fantastic starting point for exploring the beauty of Sithonia. Within Nikiti itself, you will find everything you need for a perfect vacation: traditional taverns, restaurants, cafes, bars, supermarkets, shops and various banks, pharmacies and medical services.
The sea in Nikiti is clean, calm and warm, featuring stunning blue-green hues and rarely feeling crowded due to its spaciousness. The lengthy promenade is the heart of activity in Nikiti, lined with countless restaurants and cafes, most of which offer fantastic views of the brilliant water. Near the center, you can also find a port where boats and ships are docked.
Every Friday, Nikiti hosts a lively open market where you can discover local products, including fresh fruits and vegetables, olives, olive oil and a variety of renowned honey. Remarkably, about 20% of Greece’s honey production comes from the Nikiti area, making it one of Europe’s largest honey-producing regions.
In the old village of Nikiti, situated above the main road, you can immerse yourself in history. This classic Greek village features narrow streets and traditional Macedonian architecture with charming old stone houses. From the top of the village, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the bay.
Thessaloniki Airport is just 89 km away, and Nikiti is easily accessible by road from Thessaloniki. The journey to Nikiti, no matter the direction, offers a scenic coastal drive with stunning landscapes.
